The
abstract paintings of Carla Bustamante de
Veliz are colorful expressions of the joy
of life. Carla draws on personal experiences
for the subject matter of her abstractions
then focuses on the best part of those experiences,
whether simple happiness from an event or
a lesson learned through hardship or trial.
Me picas los botones (You push
my buttons), for example, is a whimsical piece
that addresses the concepts of anger and desire,
but with bold colors and a sideways glance
that keep the tone light and fresh. No
te des por vencido (Dont give
up) is a bold work that honestly reveals the
painters emotions in the dark palate and heavy
strokes. Born of some frustration, the piece
shows determination and a willingness to continue
on in pursuit of the happy ending. Carlas
abstracts endless depth and a varied palate,
making them infinitely collectable.
